In 2012, class sizes in the school reached 96! There were not enough teachers for all the classes so the children had to teach each other.
We provided volunteer teachers until 2014
Since 2014 Simon's Mango Tree has paid the salaries of 6 permanent teachers.
We have also built accommodation for teachers to help with retention in an area where keeping teachers is a challenge.
The salary for one teacher per year is £400
WATER For drinking water the children had to walk to a bore hole 1km away or take the risk of drinking from a well. Simon's Mango Tree has supplied a bore hole adjacent to the school and provided two 1000 litre poly tanks and some guttering to catch the rain water in the rainy season.
COMPUTER ROOM Simon's Mango Tree has, in conjunction with the community, funded the completion of an IT centre. All our projects are guided and managed by the Guo school association.
SCHOOL LIBRARY Simon's Mango Tree completed the building of the school library in 2015. They are now looking for a source of children's books.
VOCATIONAL SCHOOL In 2009 the vocational school in Guo which was a building made from mud bricks, was washed away in a storm. In 2016, thanks to a very generous donation, a new vocational school consisting of three classrooms was built. Simon's Mango Tree was present for the opening of the building.
KITCHEN AND DINING ROOM In 2012, lunch was cooked outside and the children ate their lunch in a field. Simon's Mango Tree has funded the building of a dining room and kitchen and they can now cook and eat inside.
SCHOOL EQUIPMENT Simon's Mango Tree, guided by the headmaster, provides equipment that the school needs and wants.
